Kenneth and Faatimah Gamble, philanthropists and founders of Universal Companies, will host their fifth annual fashion show, “An Evening of Style and Grace — School Days Edition,” on Thursday to benefit the Universal Pearls of Wisdom program for girls, the From Boys to Men character-building program, and the Universal Audenried Culinary Academy.
“We teach our young students today what is a dying art: social grace, etiquette and manners,” Faatimah Gamble said. “We introduce them to individuals they would not come in contact with through CEO luncheons. We conduct college tours because there are some who don’t believe that they have an opportunity to go to college. We assist them with tuition, books, transportation and occasional stipends. Because of their exposure they are able to embrace the fact that there are possibilities for them and there are no limitations to what they can accomplish. We are proud of the students we are working with.”
Young chefs-in-training from Universal Audenried Culinary Academy will cater the elegant event.
“One of the things we want to do this year is raise enough funds to send the Culinary Academy to France to learn French cuisine and just to enhance and expose them to their possibilities,” Gamble said. “There’s a lot we want to do, and of course, we’re raising these funds to accomplish that.”
“An Evening of Style and Grace — School Days Edition” will be Thursday from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Universal Audenried Charter High School, 3301 Tasker St.
The fashion show will feature celebrity models Sharrie Williams, news anchor of 6 ABC; NBC 10’s Rosemary Connors and Harry Hairston; Philadelphia Tribune magazine editor, Shonda McClain; and Fox 29’s “Good Day” anchors Mike Jerrick and Alex Holley, who will model and emcee the event.
