Tried shrobing?
This year's hottest layering trend, shrobing, is a styling quirk that involves peeling your coat off your shoulders to sit across your deltoids. A celebrity-approved style, if you wanted to be on-trend the coat had to be off.
Camo chameleons
The first rule of style states: Never blend in. But this fashion trend uses the popular technique of blending in — camouflage — to help you stand out. Military chic has been cool for some time but this was the year of the camo.
Cold shoulder
In 2017, the cold-shoulder was everywhere - from dresses to tops to gowns and even Indianwear. This was one trend that was a cut above the rest.
Wear a slogan
It was the return of the slogan T-shirts as Dior and Prabal Gurung sent out speaking tees on the runway. After all, we live in a world of opinions. And it's not surprising that even your T-shirt has something to say.
Oversize me
Fashion experimented with form and norm. Baggy cuts, loose fits, oversized clothes - if it didn't fit then it was fitting fashion. From dresses to denims to jackets and pants - it was all about go big or go home. The idea was to pair the oversized pieces with fitted silhouettes for contrast.
Rip-roaring style
Fashion commentators argue that distressed clothing is as old as clothing itself. But in the 1980s, thanks to the rock, grunge and punk eras, it became a fashion statement - a way to cock a snook at tradition and style rules. This year, the trend went from distressed to distressing with some super ripped (read destroyed) denims too.
The whole six-yards
This was the year of the sari. Handloom, handmade, handwoven were the buzzwords. Designers experimented with drapes, weaves and form. What spearheaded the surge were the new blouse styles - quirky, edgy, boxy. The sari blouse moved beyond normal to experimental.
Needle work
Whether it's bags, shirts, dresses, denim, coats, leather or even boots and caps - the stitch is back in style. Embroidery has a knack of instantly bringing an outfit to life taking it from mundane to magical.
